Define the operating model before the configuration
Identify your business units, customer relationships, approval points and information owners. Decide which data should be common and which teams need separate views or access. Then map a representative journey through sales, contracts, delivery and billing. This exposes decisions that a feature checklist can miss, such as who can change commercial terms or how a transferred account keeps its history. Use that journey to assess module fit and integration requirements.
Treat rollout and governance as ongoing work
An enterprise project needs more than an initial import. Agree data quality checks, user provisioning, permission reviews, integration monitoring and change ownership. Test both ordinary transactions and exceptions, including duplicates, failed updates and staff changes. Reporting definitions should be consistent enough for management comparison while preserving useful local detail. Confirm deployment, support, recovery and contractual requirements during scoping; these should be explicit in the agreed solution rather than inferred from a product label.
