Define what recovery needs to achieve
Identify the customer, commercial and operational records your team relies on. Agree who owns the recovery process, what information is included and how long recovery points are retained. Clarify the acceptable interruption and potential data gap with the service provider. Those expectations should be documented for the actual deployment rather than inferred from the presence of a backup-status screen.
Treat a restore as a controlled change
A successful backup job is useful evidence, but the recovery procedure also needs validation. Decide how an authorised restore is requested, checked and communicated, including the effect on records changed after the recovery point. Protect access to backup material and avoid unnecessary copies of customer information. Any recovery test or production restoration should have a defined scope and owner. Record the checks needed before staff resume work, including any records or connected services that need reconciliation.
