Before you start

Required access: View filing evidence; View tax audit trail; Export tax records as applicable. The module must be enabled and its installed version ready for your workspace. Select the intended taxpayer, authority and period before changing a record.

How to investigate HMRC messages and export evidence

  1. Filter HMRC Messages by Severity, State and Source. Read the message and available HTTP, code, correlation and retry evidence.
  2. Investigate the underlying filing or connection before choosing Acknowledge.
  3. Open Evidence to inspect checksums and available Receipt links; choose Export CSV when permitted.
  4. Open Audit Trail, filter Event and Actor and export the relevant audit rows when permitted.
  5. Keep the official submission result with the exact snapshot and corresponding receipt.

Controls and limits

  • Acknowledging a message does not resolve its underlying failure.
  • Evidence exports contain sensitive business information and remain restricted to the appropriate staff role.

Check the result

Reopen the affected record and confirm the taxpayer, period, saved values and status. For external actions, inspect the actual authority acknowledgement or settlement evidence; a local saved or queued state is not acceptance.

If you cannot continue

Read the displayed validation or readiness message. Check the module version, role, source scope, authority, period and current approval evidence. If another person changed the record, refresh and review the current version. Give support the screen, error wording and correlation reference; keep passwords, one-time codes and tax identifiers out of public messages.
