Sync VAT obligations from HMRC
Pixie CRM guidance. Follow the route for your workspace, check your role and enabled modules, and verify the result before moving on.
Retrieve the taxpayer VAT periods and due dates from HMRC before preparing a return.
What you’ll accomplish
Retrieve the taxpayer VAT periods and due dates from HMRC before preparing a return. The MTD module stores tax profiles, HMRC authority, obligations, frozen filing snapshots, approvals and audit evidence, while Accounting remains the primary financial record system.
Follow these steps
- Go to Tax Centre → VAT.
- Verify the required profile has VAT enabled and a valid HMRC connection.
- Select Sync HMRC next to that profile.
- Pixie CRM requests HMRC VAT obligations and stores the returned period key, dates, due date and status in the current tenant.
- Check the obligation list and choose an open period only.
- If the expected period is absent, verify the taxpayer/HMRC authority rather than manually inventing a period.

Technical basis for this guidance
This guide was checked against libraries/Mtd_hmrc_vat_service.php; views/admin/vat.php; views/admin/review.php; models/Mtd_hmrc_model.php. The user instructions describe only behaviour exposed or enforced by the supplied module. Internal secrets, encrypted token values and database identifiers are intentionally not shown to ordinary users.
Compliance and operational boundaries
- Pixie CRM Accounting & Bookkeeping remains the authoritative ledger; the MTD module is a tax preparation/submission layer.
- Government Gateway usernames and passwords must never be entered into or stored by Pixie CRM.
- A tax filing must not proceed when transaction-level digital lineage cannot be proven.
