Pause, resume or stop a cadence

Control follow-up without losing recorded outcomes or creating duplicate activities.

Audience: authorised staffPermission: View access to the deal and Edit dealsReviewed 30 October 2026
Where to goSales CRM → Deals → Open a deal → Follow-up cadence

Before you start

Use your own authorised staff account in the intended Pixie CRM workspace. The Sales CRM module must be available and your role must include the permissions stated above. Existing leads, customers, communications and customer portal pages retain their normal access rules.

Follow these steps

  1. Select Pause when the process should temporarily stop advancing. The current activity remains visible.
  2. If work is completed while paused, record its outcome normally. No next activity is scheduled until Resume.
  3. Select Resume to continue. An open current activity remains the same activity; a cancelled current activity reopens; a completed current activity follows its recorded branch.
  4. Select Stop cadence to end the run permanently and enter a clear reason.
  5. Review the state and reason in Follow-up cadence and the corresponding Deal history event.

Behavior and limits

  • Pause affects advancement, not the visibility or due date of the existing activity. It does not suspend other manually created activities.
  • Resuming after an activity was completed uses that original completion time as the next delay anchor. The next activity may therefore already be due.
  • Stopping cancels only the current generated activity if it is still open. Completed steps and unrelated activities are preserved.
  • Moving a deal to Won or Lost, or archiving it, stops its current active or paused cadence. Restoring or reopening the deal does not restart that run.
  • Completed and stopped runs cannot resume. Start a new run when a new follow-up process is needed.
  • Controls recheck the run revision. A concurrent completion or control action requires reopening the deal before retrying.

Check it worked

  • After Pause, confirm the badge says Paused and no new step was generated.
  • After Resume, confirm the existing activity or the correct next step appears once.
  • After Stop, confirm the reason is recorded and any open current cadence activity is cancelled.

Troubleshooting

  • A process already ended message means it was completed or stopped by another action. Refresh the deal.
  • A cancelled current step pauses the run automatically. Use Resume to reopen that step instead of trying to reopen its activity directly.
  • If Resume reports an invalid deal or owner, review the deal stage, archive state and owner availability.
